Opposition activists in Brest stage May Day march
Some 20 activists of the Hramada Belarusian Social Democratic Party (BSDP) and the "Tell the Truth!" movement marched through downtown Brest on May 1 on the occasion of International Workers' Day.
As Ihar Maslowski, head of the BSDP chapter in the Brest region, told BelaPAN, the crowd passed out leaflets and flags bearing the party's emblem.
At the entrance to a major city park the activists were stopped by police officers but were eventually let through after they promised not to distribute their leaflets there.
The Brest city government had turned down the opposition party's application for permission to stage a May Day demonstration. //BelaPAN
