Belarusian Party of Left calls for single opposition candidate in 2015 presidential election
The Spravedlivy Mir (Just World) Belarusian Party of the Left (BPL) wants opposition forces to put forward a single candidate in the 2015 presidential election, Deputy Chairperson Valery Ukhnalyow told BelaPAN.
The matter was discussed at a meeting of the opposition party's Central Committee in Minsk on May 15, he said.
"We take part in the process of devising a procedure for selecting a single candidate and constantly attend meetings where the matter is discussed," said the activist.
The BPL will continue cooperation with other opposition forces to find an acceptable procedure of selecting a single presidential candidate, according to Mr. Ukhnalyow.
The party considers conducting a survey of all of its members to decide whether it should consider putting forward its own presidential nominee or support another organization's candidate, said the politician.
