Lukashenka expresses condolences to Russian Orthodox patriarch on death of Kyiv Metropolitan Vladimir

 

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has offered condolences to Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill (Cyril I) on the death of Vladimir (Volodymyr), metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine and primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the ecclesiastic jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Moscow.

It was with deep sorrow that people in Belarus took the news of the death of Metropolitan Vladimir, Mr. Lukashenka says in his message, according to the presidential press office.

“The Belarusian people are mourning the great loss that has befallen the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the entire Orthodox world,” Mr. Lukashenka says.

Metropolitan Vladimir (born Viktor Sabodan) was elected metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine in May 1992. He died of cancer in a Kyiv hospital on July 5 at the age of 78. //BelaPAN
