Price ceilings for milk to be lifted in Mahilyow region by way of experiment
Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced on Monday that milk producers in the Mahilyow region would be allowed to set prices and choose buyers independently by way of experiment.
While visiting a cheese plant in Byalynichy, Mahilyow region, Mr. Lukashenka said that price ceilings for milk would be lifted in the region in one week, according to the government`s news agency BelTA.
The measure will allow farms to "decide freely and without dictation from the regional executive committee to what processor and on what terms they should sell milk," said Mr. Lukashenka.
The Belarusian leader noted that the experiment would be conducted at the request of Babushkina Krynka, the region`s largest dairy producer which wants to increase its milk purchases.
He ordered Pyotr Rudnik, head of the regional executive committee, to ensure that the new rules do not lead to a rise in corruption, and warned that "relations between milk producers and processors should be based exclusively on transparent market conditions." //BelaPAN
