Former Foreign Minister Latypaw joins supervisory board of Alfa Bank
Former Foreign Minister Ural Latypaw has been included in the supervisory board of Belarus’ Alfa Bank as an independent director.
The National Bank of Belarus earlier found that the 63-year-old Russian-born ex-official met the qualification requirements for an independent director on a bank’s supervisory board, said Alfa Bank’s press office.
Mr. Latypaw becomes a third independent director on the board. “We are confident that his solid managerial experience, including in business, and scientific activity will contribute to our bank’s further development,” Dzmitry Vowk, chairman of the supervisory board, was quoted as saying. He added that Mr. Latypaw would oversee the bank’s development strategy, assess the performance of the board and approve reports and plans.
Alfa Bank is owned by the Russian parent bank bearing the same name.
Mr. Latypaw was a presidential aide for three years before his appointment as foreign minister in 1998. In 2000, he left the position to become the state secretary of the Security Council and the presidential aide on national security. He also served as the Presidential Administration’s head between 2001 and 2004 before leaving the government. // BelaPAN
