Belarusian Olympic, Paralympic heroes collect awards from National Olympic Committee

Belarus' athletes who won medals at the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games earlier this year collected awards from the National Olympic Committee at a ceremony in Minsk on Wednesday.

The Belarusian team won three medals at the Olympics and nine medals at the Paralympic Games.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sports Minister Aleh Kachan noted that the Belarusian team had been in the top 20 in the medal table of the Vancouver Olympics and had placed second behind Russia among the CIS countries.

"These people have brought fame to our country," the minister stressed. "Today they have confirmed once again that our sport traditions have a decent place in the world rankings."// BelaPAN.
