Brewers note much improvement in quality of Belarusian malt

The quality of Belarusian-made malt has improved significantly, brewery representatives told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday, as quoted by BelaPAN.

"One can work with malt in Belarus. It is not worse than malt used by our competitors in other countries," said Mikhail Chachanyow, director general of the Minsk-based Alivaryya brewery.

Ryhor Pyatkevich, CEO of another brewery in Minsk, Krynitsa, echoed the remarks, lauding the Belsolad malt maker for improving its production practices. "The low quality of Belarusian malt is a thing of the past. Today Belsolad is a modern European malt plant with an annual output capacity of 140,000 tons," he said.

Aleh Kisel, director of Brestskaye Piva, said that although the quality of Belarusian malt had improved, it was twice as expensive as malt produced in Russia and Ukraine.

Alyaksey Charnyayew, director general of Heineken in Belarus, called for the adoption of the country's new quality standards for malt that would be in line with international requirements.

Earlier this month, Alyaksandr Lukashenka approved a government loan of 45.5 billion rubels for Belsolad.
