Enough grain will be harvested this year for domestic needs and export
Enough grain will be harvested this year for domestic needs of the country and for export, Prime Minister Syarhey Sidorski told reporters on August 13 while staying in Kalinkavichy, Homyel region, as quoted by BelaPAN.
Although this year's harvest will be somewhat worse than previously forecast, mainly because of the extreme drought in the south, there will be enough grain to feed people and livestock, the government's news agency BelTA quoted Mr. Sidorski as saying.
Between 200,000 and 300,000 tons of top-grade wheat, which is used to make pasta, will be harvested, enough for the country's needs, Mr. Sidorski said. In fact, neighboring countries are asking Belarus to sell such wheat, he noted.
In the last two years, the output of cereals, such as buckwheat and millet, has been increased to meet the domestic demand in full, Mr. Sidorski said.
