Soccer fans boycott game over police's crackdown
Dinamo Minsk fans boycotted the soccer team's September 26 game against FC Vitsyebsk to protest the police's crackdown, BelaPAN reports.
The stands at a stadium on the western outskirts of Minsk were almost empty as the overwhelming majority of Dinamo fans joined the protest.
In a statement, a group of fans said that they had been mistreated by riot police before the team's previous home game on September 12.
In particular, the fans were subjected to strict pat-down searches. "After the search we were divided into groups of 10 to 15 people and brought to the stands under escort," the fans said, adding that they had not been allowed to leave the stands throughout the game.
Fans in other cities held similar protests on September 26.
