Belarus, Ukraine agree to devise common supply plan for critical foodstuffs
The agriculture ministers of Belarus and Ukraine, Mikhail Rusy and Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, agreed at their meeting in Kyiv on Monday that the two countries should devise a common supply plan for critical foodstuffs, said the press office of the Belarusian agriculture ministry, BelaPAN said.
In addition, according to the press office, the ministers discussed the possibility of establishing joint enterprises that would grow corn and lucerne seeds, considering Ukraine’s high research potential in this area.
Messrs. Rusy and Prysyazhnyuk also discussed preparations for Belarusian-Ukrainian agricultural fairs to be held in cities of the two countries. The 2011 action plan for the development of Belarusian-Ukrainian trade and economic cooperation provides for the expansion of such fairs, the press office said.
Mr. Rusy, as chairman of the CIS Interstate Council on Farming and Produce Processing Industry Affairs, raised issues concerning measures to enhance the food security of the Commonwealth’s member countries.
The next meeting of the Council is to take place in Minsk on March.
