Cuba condemns EU sanctions against Belarus, foreign minister says
Cuba “strongly condemns” the imposition by the European Union of sanctions against Belarus, Foreign Minister Bruno Eduardo Rodriguez Parrilla said in Minsk on Tuesday while meeting with Uladzimir Andreychanka, chairman of Belarus’ House of Representatives.
Mr. Andreychanka expressed gratitude to Cuba for its “unconditional support” of the results of Belarus’ December 14-19 presidential election. “We also have always supported your just struggle against the sanctions on the part of the United States,” he noted.
Belarus “values its warm relations with Cuba,” Mr. Andreychanka said. “We are interested in the development of Belarusian-Cuban relations in a broad range of areas that are of mutual interest.”
Belarus views Cuba as a basis for cooperation with other countries in the Latin American region, Mr. Andreychanka noted. “For our part, we are ready to provide assistance in advancing Cuba’s political and economic interests in our region,” he said.
Mr. Rodriguez pointed out that the two countries’ views coincide on many international issues. He conveyed an invitation from the chairman of the Cuban parliament for Mr. Andreychanka to visit Cuba. //BelaPAN
