"Tell the Truth!" activists send postcards to political detainees

Activists of the "Tell the Truth!" campaign gathered at the central post office in downtown Minsk on March 25 to send greeting postcards to political detainees on the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of the declaration of the short-lived Belarusian National Republic.

The postcards have been addressed to at least 25 people held in detention centers over their participation in the post-election demonstration in Minsk on December 19, Andrey Dzmitryyew (picture 1), a coordinator of the campaign, told reporters at the entrance to the post office.

Tell the Truth!" activists had gone door-to-door in different parts of Belarus to collect signatures to the postcards.

Mr. Dzmitryyew said that the postcards had been signed by more than a thousand people in the past few days alone.

Among the people who came to the post office was Maya Abromchyk, a young woman who had her leg broken by riot police officers during the brutal dispersal of the post-election protest. More than three months after the event, she still needs a stick to walk. //BelaPAN
