Minsk subway bombing solved - Lukashenka

Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced in an extraordinary televised address on Wednesday afternoon that the April 11 Minsk subway bombing has been solved.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka“The crime was solved today at 5 a.m.,” the Belarusian leader said.

“It took only 24 hours for the KGB and the police to conduct a brilliant operation yesterday at 9 p.m. and arrest the perpetrators without noise, shots and rattle,” he said. “They [the suspects] already made confessions today at 5 a.m. The main thing is that we know now who and how committed this terrorist act. It’s still unknown for what reason, but this will also become known soon. This is our task.”

Mr. Lukashenka pointed out that he was extremely grateful to the officers of the KGB, the police, prosecutorial bodies and all law-enforcement, state security and defense agencies for the “prompt job.”

“Analysts, investigators and experts established a clear chronology of the crime, processed a huge amount of audio and video material, and identified those villains without leaving their offices, which makes me especially glad,” Mr. Lukashenka said.

According to him, the “active phase” of the operation, in which the suspects were captured, met the highest standards of a “civilized nation,” where people “above all use their brains to combat the most sophisticated crimes.”

Mr. Lukashenka noted that the detainees had also admitted to being involved in a bomb explosion that occurred during an Independence Day open-air concert in Minsk in July 2008, which injured more than 50 people, and a bomb explosion at a youth disco in Vitsyebsk in September 2005.

According to the head of state, these “villains” were ordinary employees working as a turner and an electrician. //BelaPAN
