At least 300 grabbed by police during «silent» protests across Belarus on Sunday
At least 300 people were grabbed by police during a fresh round of "silent" anti-government protests organized by an online campaign called "Revolution through Social Networks" across Belarus on July 3.
No fewer than 210 people were arrested in Minsk as police cracked down on a protest in front of the central railroad station and some 90 were apprehended in other Belarusian cities, human rights defender Valyantsin Stefanovich told BelaPAN.
The people arrested in Minsk were expected to stand trial in the Frunzenski, Savetski, Zavodski, Maskowski and Kastrychnitski District Courts on Monday, he said, adding that some cases may be considered in other district courts as well.
Around 30 people were grabbed in Homyel, while some 20 were arrested in Hrodna and 12 in Mahilyow. Police also made arrests in Brest, Vitsyebsk, Salihorsk and other cities.
In Smalyavichy, Minsk region, an elderly man and his 18-month grandson were arrested by police, Mr. Stefanovich said. The boy was collected from a local police station by his mother hours later.
