Lukashenka plays up benefits of 1917 October Revolution in greetings to nation
Alyaksandr Lukashenka emphasized what he described as the benefits of the October Revolution in a message of greetings to the Belarusians on November 7, the 94th anniversary of the event that led to the creation of the Soviet Union and decades of Communist rule on its territory.
In his message, the Belarusian leader said that the revolution had “liberated workers from exploitation and oppression” and led to “equal rights and social justice.”
In remarks that appeared unrelated to the controversial anniversary, Mr. Lukashenka said that the “Belarusian people has chosen the path toward building a sovereign socially-orientated state.” “The implementation of our own development model has allowed us to bring industry and agriculture to a new level and increase national wealth under difficult external conditions,” he said.
According to Mr. Lukashenka, “the present-day peace and stability in society, the lack of drastic social divides, the rule of law and order are evidence that the chosen path is correct.”
He expressed certainty that “despite temporary difficulties we will continue our confident movement forward, toward securing decent living standards for the citizens.”
Mr. Lukashenka wished the nation “perseverance and optimism and further success for the sake of Belarus.” //BelaPAN
