Kavalyow`s mother says that her son is innocent
The mother of Uladzislaw Kavalyow decried the death sentence imposed by a Supreme Court judge on her son and his friend Dzmitry Kanavalaw in the subway bombing trial on November 30.
Talking to reporters in front of the House of Justice, Lyobow Kavalyow said that her son received the death sentence only because he had withdrawn statements made during the pre-trial investigation while speaking in court.
“The sentence is not based on the case file,” said the woman. “My son is innocent. He is not involved in the horrible terror attack.”
“The mother is crying. She pities [her son sentenced to] execution. But I pity my son as well,” said Ryma Daneyka, whose son died as a result of the attack.
The woman said that she was satisfied with the investigation of the case and the court proceedings. “In fact I want them [the convicts] to be brought to a square and cut there into pieces so that they suffer as my son did. My son suffered for two weeks. He was in a coma.”
Alyaksandr Filataw, who observed the trial, said that he doubted that the two men deserved death. “One of the victims did dare to speak out in court. No traces of explosives were found on the accused, which I believe is the main controversy,” he noted.
A Vitsyebsk-based rights defender, Pavel Levinaw, said that Ms. Kavalyow had asked the judge in writing to allow her a meeting with her son. “They met only once after the end of the pretrial investigation,” he said. //BelaPAN
