Relatives, colleagues pay tribute to murdered journalist Charkasava
Relatives and members of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) visited the grave of Veranika Charkasava on October 19, one day before the eighth anniversary of the reporter's brutal murder.
Ms. Charkasava was found dead with more than 40 stab wounds in her apartment on Nyakrasava Street in Minsk on October 20, 2004. She was a staff writer with the newspaper Salidarnasts at that time.
While many journalists link the killing to her reporting, investigators with the Minsk City Prosecutor's Office appeared to ignore work-related motives for the reporter's killing and focused on her relatives as suspects.
The crime remains unsolved.
