Unmanned motorized raft used for smuggling cigarettes to Latvia
Smugglers attempted to sneak 26,000 packs of cigarettes from Belarus to Latvia with the help of an unmanned raft equipped with an electric engine and navigation equipment, said the State Border Committee's press office.
The raft crossed the Western Dvina River, which separates Belarus and Latvia, on the night between November 19 and 20, but the cigarettes were intercepted by Latvian border guards after their Belarusian counterparts spotted the raft with the help of night vision devices.
No people have been arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt so far, the press office said. //BelaPAN
