Certain cigarette brands to increase in price by more than 20 percent on January 1
The retail prices of some brands of Belarusian-made and imported cigarettes will be raised on January 1 by more than 20 percent, the press office of the tax ministry announced on Thursday.
In particular, Fest is to increase in price to 4,700 rubels per pack, Kent to 12,500 rubels, VIP 8 and VIP 10 to 7,500 rubels, Korona to 4,600 rubels, Winston to 10,500 rubels and West to 9,500 rubels.
The retail prices of other brands of Belarusian-made and imported cigarettes were increased by 3.7 to 5.7 percent on December 1.
The excise tax rates on tobacco products are to be significantly raised after January 1.
Government officials have repeatedly emphasized the need to increase the excise tax rates on alcohol and cigarettes to bridge the gap between retail prices in Belarus and Russia. //BelaPAN
