Russian phytosanitary watchdog set to send officers to Belarusian border checkpoints
Russia's veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor announced on Friday that it planned to send its officers to Belarus for "joint" control over plants and flowers destined for Russia.
The watchdog said that its officers were expected to join Belarusian colleagues at checkpoints on Belarus' borders with third countries on February 18.
In December 2012, Rosselkhoznadzor accused Belarusian customs officers of failing to ensure that Russian-bound flowers and plants are free of pests and disease.
The agency sent a note to the Belarusian embassy over what was described as poor control over plants and flowers supplied to Russia from third countries through Belarus.
The Belarusian authorities have yet to agree to the presence of Russian sanitary officers at its border checkpoints. //BelaPAN
