Belarusian Christian Democracy to hold International Day of Families events across Belarus
Belarusian Christian Democracy (BCD) will hold a series of events to mark the International Day of Families, observed on May 15, Dzyanis Sadowski, executive secretary of the unregistered opposition party, told BelaPAN on Monday.
BCD will hold a number of concerts, charity events, contests, exhibitions, outdoor painting sessions, and conferences across Belarus, Mr. Sadowski said.
He stressed that the government should pay much more attention to the International Day of Families. "A strong family is the foundation of a strong country," he explained. "Organizations dealing with family issues should not be the only ones to observe this date. It should be celebrated in downtown squares and on television."
The government should send a clear signal to people that it prioritizes family welfare and will provide maximum support to families, Mr. Sadowski said.
On Saturday, Belarusian Christian Democracy hosted a meeting for young families within the framework of a campaign to promote family values that was launched in 2009, he noted.
