Revenues from innovation export projected to total $10 million this year

Revenues from the export of innovations developed by Belarusian researchers will total $10 million in 2008, Mikhail Myasnikovich, chairman of the National Academy of Sciences, told reporters on August 1.

Scientific papers by Belarusian researchers are "very popular" abroad and are referenced seven or eight times every day, Dr. Myasnikovich said. The export of know-hows and engineering services and direct sales of scientific works are a new frontier for Belarus, he noted.

According to Mr. Myasnikovich, innovations in areas such as space exploration, hydrogen power generation, nanotechnologies, low-tonnage chemistry, and special metallurgy are the most popular ones.

Exports by the High Technology Park in Minsk totaled $43.5 million in the first half of 2008 and are expected to reach $100 million by the end of the year, whereas its imports amounted to only $699,000 and should not increase significantly, Mr. Myasnikovich said. //BelaPAN
