UN Economic Commission for Europe to draw up report on Belarus` innovative development
The UN Economic Commission for Europe is to draw up a report on Belarus’ innovative development, Ihar Voytaw, head of the State Committee on Science and Technologies, said at a meeting held in Minsk on Monday, as quoted by BelaPAN.
The Commission’s opinion is very important in the context of the government’s efforts to build an innovation-oriented economy, Mr. Voytaw said.
The report will focus on the results of economic and innovative activities, the management of innovative activities, regulations governing the sphere, cooperation between the scientific and industrial sectors, training, financial support for innovative private businesses, international ties and other things.
Its key priorities include assessing the efficiency of approaches currently in place and offering a new vision for the country’s innovative development.
Rumen Dobrinsky, of the UN commission, said that the report would contain recommendations for increasing the country’s innovation potential. It will target politicians to help them shape a policy capable of exploiting the country`s innovation potential and increasing the efficiency of the national innovation system, he said.
This is a joint project of the Belarusian government and the UN commission, in which foreign and domestic experts participate, he said.
This past June, the parties discussed priorities of the project. Now they hold consultations and visit companies and governmental agencies. Work on the report is expected to be completed in October and afterward, the paper will be submitted to Belarus for feedback. In December, the report is to be approved at a UN meeting in Geneva.
