Top MP attacks OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's resolution on Belarus

The deputy chairman of the House of Representatives has condemned as "anti-Belarusian" the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's most recent resolution on the situation in Belarus.

"I must say that we have heard and seen nothing new in the resolution," Viktar Huminski said at a news conference in Minsk on Wednesday.

"Despite the fact that some leading figures of the OSCE have made statements about the importance of a dialogue, we have seen something completely different in practice."

Mr. Huminski said that much of the resolution had been copied from earlier resolutions adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. "They have once again offered us such standards of work as ultimatums, dictation, visa restrictions, the confusion of sports and politics. Such forms of work are unacceptable for us," he said.

"The facts presented in the report by Mr. Tony Lloyd were false - even the last names were distorted," Mr. Huminski said. "This is evidence that the politicians who care about Belarus so much in fact don’t even know the true situation in the country. This resolution has angered me. There is not even a hint of dialogue there. As many as 243 Belarusians are banned from visiting the European Union, 32 companies are under sanctions. And they have the face to say that this is done for the benefit of Belarusians." //BelaPAN
