Ceremony in Minsk marks 80th birthday of renowned literary scholar Adam Maldzis

A ceremony took place at the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature in Minsk to mark the 80th birthday of renowned literary scholar and historian Adam Maldzis.

In attendance were many prominent figures who presented the scholar with gifts and flowers and spoke about the importance of his work.

In an interview with BelaPAN, Dr. Maldzis described a six-volume bibliography of Belarusian literature as the main work of his life. "I devoted 20 years of my life to this work, this is very important reference material for today's generations," he said.

He said that the main problem of Belarusian culture was excessive red tape.

When asked about his near-future plans, Dr. Maldzis said, "I plan to go to my native Astravets area, I want to get away from this noise and finish my own books. Lately I have been working on others' papers and books, editing, reviewing them, examining doctoral theses, while my own books have been left unfinished due to the lack of time."
