Lyabedzka calls for communicating truthful information about Ukraine to public
Anatol Lyabedzka, leader of the United Civic Party, emphasized the need to use the ongoing local election campaign to communicate truthful information about Ukraine to the public.
"One needs to say that Ukrainians took to the streets to protest what Belarusians protest in their kitchens," he said during his visit to Brest on Monday. "As for rightlessness the situation in our country is even worse."
Mr. Lyabedzka noted that UCP members in Brest had applied to the city authorities for permission to stage a march on March 10 in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
According to the opposition politician, city government officials treated the activists with politeness while accepting the application from them.
Mr. Lyabedzka acknowledged that the ousting of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych had drawn a mixed reaction in Belarus. "But the opinion will change once Belarusians travel to Ukraine over some time, meet local people and learn that things have changed for the better. And that will be a blow to our government," he predicted. //BelaPAN
