Head of pro-government trade union federation suggests introducing tax on men without children

Leanid Kozik, head of the pro-government Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB), has suggested introducing a tax on men without children to boost birth rates and increase the government’s budget revenues. Mr. Kozik says that the tax should be applied to men aged between 25 and 40, BelaPAN reports.

He suggests cutting the rate by 50 percent upon the birth of the first child, abolishing the payment requirement upon the birth of the second child and paying back the entire sum to the person upon the birth of the third kid, the FTUB press office said on Wednesday.

Mr. Kozik also calls for measures to encourage couples to have the second child.
