Yakub Kolas` private letters go on display for one hour as part of Night of Museums event

Yakub Kolas’ private letters to his friend Alyaksandra Ketler were for the first time displayed to the public for one hour at a museum in Minsk on Friday.

The letters went on display along with the renowned Belarusian author`s verses dedicated to the woman as part of the Europe-wide Night of Museums event.

“On every Night of Museums, we try to show items that cannot be seen at the museum at another time and are not on display anywhere else,” Zinaida Kamarowskaya, director of the Yakub Kolas museum, told BelaPAN. “This time, we invited our visitors to have a look at Yakub Kolas’ several letters to his friend Alyaksandra Ketler and his verses dedicated to her. They are a kind of Yakub Kolas’ diary and feature the writer`s curious signature. We hold more than 250 letters written by Kolas between 1946 and 1956 until the day of his death. But we may not show them to the public because of an agreement signed with Alyaksandra Ketler and her relatives when she was still alive. These letters will not be published until mid-2013.” //BelaPAN
