Shumchanka was jailed on charge of organizing unsanctioned gathering, wife says
Anatol Shumchanka was jailed on Thursday on a charge of organizing an unsanctioned gathering, the wife of the leader of a small business association called Perspektyva told BelaPAN with reference to police officers.
A judge of the Tsentralny District Court in Minsk sentenced the activist to five days in jail. He was arrested earlier in the day, shortly after attending a meeting of striking vendors at the Zhdanovichy market on the outskirts of the Belarusian capital.
Mr. Shumchanka`s wife said that she had failed to deliver a parcel to her husband after receiving "conflicting" information about his whereabouts from officers of the Tsentralny district police department and the detention center on Akrestsina Street. //
