Freedom is not chaos but a calm and quiet life and public order, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said on Thursday while meeting with students of Mahilyow State University, BelaPAN said.

State sovereignty is so important because it gives freedom to the residents of an independent country, the Belarusian leader said.

"Sovereignty gives us freedom to live in our own land, choose our own path, manage our present and build our future," he said. "But everybody has his own notion of freedom. Many see it as going out on the street and do what they want. But your freedom ends whether other people's interests begin."

Mr. Lukashenka claimed that Western countries do not live in accordance with their notions of freedom and warned against borrowing them.

He stressed that freedom was not about being allowed to say anything. "Come on, say what you want, but learn to listen to others, borrow their experience, especially the experience of the older generation," Mr. Lukashenka concluded.
