Ambassador welcomes Minsk’s suit against Russia’s export duty
Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Surikov has described as competent Minsk’s move to go to court over the customs duty applied by Russia to exports of petrochemical products and “petrochemical raw materials” to Belarus.
“Previously, such relations moved into the media sphere that doesn’t decide anything but only hypes up things,” Mr. Surikov said at a news conference held in Minsk on March 31 as quoted by BelaPAN. Legal experts representing Belarus and Russia will submit their arguments; the CIS Economic Court will examine them and take a decision, he said.
“I don’t know what decision will be taken,” the ambassador said. “I only regret that Belarus hasn’t signed international agreements that could allow it to apply, for instance, to the arbitration court in Stockholm. It would be of benefit to everyone, including businesses."
