Lukashenka defends decision to take IMF loan
Alyaksandr Lukashenka has defended the Belarusian government's decision to borrow $3.44 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"We haven't guzzled [the money] away. We have not used it for paying wages or even for industrial production growth," he told university students in Mahilyow on May 27.
Speaking about comments contrasting his sharp criticism of the IMF a decade ago with his recent readiness to accept assistance from the financial institution, Mr. Lukashenka noted that "there is no contradiction here." //BelaPAN
