Kyrgyzstan sends new extradition request for Bakiyev
Kyrgyzstan has sent another request to Belarus for the extradition of former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the chief of Kyrgyzstan’s State National Security Service, Keneshbek Dushebayev, said on Tuesday, as quoted by BelaPAN.
“Kyrgyzstan will, despite everything, demand that Belarus extradite Kurmanbek Bakiyev,” Kyrgyzstan’s news agency 24.kg quoted Mr. Duehsebayev as saying. “If there is no favorable reply this time again, we will not give up and will continue to attack Belarus until we achieve the desired result.”
Mr. Bakiyev has been staying in Belarus since April 19. He fled Kyrgyzstan after being overthrown amid violent clashes between government troops and demonstrators in early April.
On May 21, Minsk received a formal request for his extradition and an 18-page attachment from Bishkek. The request was turned down in June.
