More than 500 Belarusians left for Polish festivities celebrating anniversary of Grunwald battle
More than 500 Belarusians have left for festivities that kicked off near Olsztyn in northeastern Poland on July 15 to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald that took place on July 15, 1410 with the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Litva (Lithuania) beating the knights of the Teutonic Order, artist Mikola Kupava told BelaPAN.
The festivities will run until July 17.
According to the newspaper Turism and Otdykh (Tourism and Vacation) that covers travel industry news, 219 Belarusian tourists have left for the festivities, said Mr. Kupava, deputy chairman of Belarus` organizing committee for festivities celebrating the 600th anniversary of the battle.
Besides, 194 people - members of a Minsk-based medieval reenactment society called Knyazhy Huf - will participate in the events, with their trip sponsored by the Belarusian culture ministry, he said, noting that more people, representatives of five medieval reenactment groups and history enthusiasts, had left for Poland.
A separate delegation of members of the organizing committee, scientists, artists and journalists intends to display at the festivities reproduced gonfalons under which Belarusian troops are believed to have fought in the Battle of Grunwald, according to Mr. Kupava.
