Inefficient state farms will be put into private hands, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said Monday while visiting the Ivatsevichy district of the Brest region, BelaPAN reports.
According to the presidential pres office, the Belarusian leader said that the government would wait for two years and then privatize the farms that failed to become profitable.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Bambiza reportedly noted that some unprofitable farming enterprises had already been privatized. The privatization process will now be extended to not only enterprises that operate at a loss but also inefficient and low-profit businesses, he said.
By directive of the head of state, the government will soon devise approaches to privatizing such enterprises, including cooperative farms and farms controlled by local governments, the press office said.
According to it, Mr. Lukashenka also suggested proposing measures to develop sheep farming in the country.
On September 7, the head of state will continue his working trip to the Brest region, focusing his attention on matters relating to the development of crop production, the press office said.
