Lukashenka approves state program against crime and corruption
Alyaksandr Lukashenka, by his September 23 presidential edict, approved a state program to combat crime and corruption between 2010 and 2012, BelaPAN reports.
The program provides for a set of measures against crime, including organizational, legal and practical steps aimed at combating specific types of criminal offenses, the presidential press office said.
The program envisages the active involvement of the judiciary, the State Secretariat of the Security Council, the State Control Committee, the National Bank of Belarus and national and local state administration agencies in anti-crime efforts.
The program requires the authorities to monitor the crime situation, efforts to reduce the crime rate, public sentiments about the performance of law enforcement agencies and courts, as well as problems related to doing business.
The program calls for measures to improve the standards of healthcare and social services and secure transparent privatization, rent, land and housing deals and government contracts, according to the press office.
It also provides for the development of proposals for combating corporate raids and other abuses in the business sphere.
The implementation of the program is to be controlled by the Prosecutor General's Office and the Council of Ministers.
