Minsk police arrest another man over theft at department store

The Minsk city police have arrested another man over a theft at the TsUM department store, said BelaPAN.

The police initially said that goods and cash worth more than 36 million rubels ($11,600) had been stolen from the TsUM department store in Minsk on the night between April 2 and 3.

However, more than a thousand jewelry pieces estimated at over 600 million rubels ($193,500), which are believed to have been stolen from the store, were seized from two suspects earlier this week.

One of the suspects, who is accused of perpetrating the theft, was arrested late on April 3. The 26-year-old resident of Maladzyechna, who has a history of previous criminal convictions, admitted to the crime immediately after the arrest.

His friend and suspected accomplice, who works as a security guard at a slot machine club in Maladzyechna, was apprehended the following day. Three caches with the stolen items were discovered at his summer cottage.
