Lukashenka: Belarus managed to go through difficult period without disasters and losses
Alyaksandr Lukashenka said on Tuesday that Belarus had managed to "go through a difficult period without disasters and losses" thanks to "mercy, friendliness, heartful generosity and readiness to share everything with others," all qualities inherent in the Belarusians, according to the Belarusian leader's press office.
While presenting the 2011 Award for Spiritual Revival at a ceremony in Minsk, Mr. Lukashenka noted that Belarus had managed to preserve independence, civil peace and concord, which he said is a "moral victory of the Belarusian people that managed to build a society based on the laws of conscience, justice and care for people."
Describing the government as the main patron of arts in the country, he said that government support for Belarusian culture had never been so much "powerful" as in the past few years.
"Culture is meant to be on the level of tasks set for the country. Its objective today is to unify society, strengthen the building of Belarus' statehood. The people expects from our masterful artists works that would strike a chord in millions of people," Mr. Lukashenka was quoted as saying. //BelaPAN
