Government raises salaries of military personnel

The Belarusian government has raised the salaries of the Armed Forces staff.

According to the defense ministry’s newspaper Belorusskaya Voyennaya Gazeta, contract personnel serving in positions ranking from the first to the ninth category have had their salaries raised by 42 to 48 percent, whereas the salaries of commissioned officers serving in positions ranking from the 11th to the 53rd category have been increased by 26 to 43 percent.

The average after-tax salary of the Belarusian military officers in January will thus be 20 percent higher than in December 2011, Belorusskaya Voyennaya Gazeta said.

Since the First-Class Worker Rate, used for calculating pay rates in the public sector, was raised by 32.5 percent – from 151,000 to 200,000 rubels ($24) – on January 1, the allowances paid to the contract personnel have increased by 32 percent on the average, the paper said.

According to it, the students of the Military Academy of Belarus and the military departments of civilian higher education institutions are to be paid 230,000 rubels in January compared with 154,000 in December, while the cadets of Suvorov Minsk Military School have had their monthly allowance increased from 37,750 to 50,000 rubels ($6). //BelaPAN
