Opposition activists use word play to highlight Lukashenka`s attitude toward Belarusian people

Young activists of the "Tell the Truth!" movement used word play in central Minsk on Friday to highlight what they view as Alyaksandr Lukashenka`s attitude toward the Belarusian people.

After gathering in the square in front of the Kamarowski food market, the youths passed out prepared horseradish bottles carrying a label that said, "You`ll get horseradish from the president." The phrase, a pun, means "You`ll get nothing from the president."

The activists were wearing masks of Mr. Lukashenka as they handed out the bottles to shoppers and passers-by.

"We have assumed the responsibility for promoting the main idea of Lukashenka`s rule, which is saying `You`ll get horseradish` in reply to all requests and proposals from the Belarusian non-governmental sector and civil society," activist Pavel Vinahradaw explained. "It concerns changes to electoral laws, the release of political prisoners and the [average] salary of $500."

No activists were arrested during the event. //BelaPAN
