Tempers ran high at parking lot for agricultural show guests and participants

Guests and participants arriving for the second leg of an international agricultural show at the Hastelawskaye farm near Minsk on June 6 had to deal with an embarrassing hurdle unless they had VIP status.

Rains that battled the country for a week turned the parking lot at the dairy farm intended for the general public into a muddy bog.

Vehicles were struggling to plow through the churned-up ground, infuriating the drivers. The organizers sent a tractor for rescue, but it was not able to help all.

“I wasted half a bucket of diesel fuel to get out,” one driver confided to BelaPAN, stopping, however, short of criticizing the organizers. “They are not to blame, aren’t they? God sent us the weather. There was green grass all over the place only a week ago.”

“It is an insult to a parking lot,” said another man. “They could have done something, having charged us so much for participation.”

To a question as to how she liked the exhibition, another driver, who introduced herself as Tatsyana, cried, “We can’t get there! Either the weather is to blame or the organizers simply failed to prepare the ground. All cars are covered with mud. It is horrible. Meanwhile, we are displaying our products. Have we paid 300 euros for driving around in mud?”

“I’ve come in high heels,” said Alena. “It was hard to get there from the parking lot. Regretfully, the problem is serious and everyone is complaining about damage done to their nice shoes.”

Two young women, Volha and Halina, were ingenious to put plastic bags on their shoes. When asked about their impressions of the show, one girl said, “We’ve arrived only a short while ago. We like it here. As for the mud, there is nothing scary about it. But we should have brought our rubber boots along.”

There was another parking lot at the farm, which escaped rain damage for some reason. That was for VIP guests. //BelaPAN
