UK minister for Europe welcomes establishment of UN special rapporteur on human rights in Belarus
UK Minister for Europe David Lidington has welcomed the UN Human Rights Council’s resolution establishing a special rapporteur on Belarus.
The resolution “sends a strong message that countries across the world are increasingly concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation in Belarus,” Mr. Lidington says in his statement. “The Rapporteur will be a valuable source of independent reporting on events in the country, and will help keep the spotlight on the situation there. I urge the Government of Belarus to cooperate fully with this new mechanism, and to implement the recommendations of the most recent report by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.” //BelaPAN
